KAMLOOPS - The Tournament Capital won’t be getting its RCMP helicopter back from Kelowna for a while, despite pleadings from Kamloops City Councillors.
The RCMP are reviewing last April's controversial re-deployment of interior RCMP aircraft after a meeting with councillors in October, 2016. But RCMP Assistant Commissioner Brenda Butterworth says in a letter to council that review won't be done until at least August.
She said the RCMP needs time to see if it was a wise use of resources.
"Now that it has been relocated for approximately six months (The RCMP) has initiated an internal review to determine if the anticipated efficiencies have been realized. This will occur over the next six months to ensure that a twelve month sample of data is considered."
Last April, the Kamloops helicopter was sent to Kelowna, while Kelowna’s helicopter was sent to Prince George in exchange for a plane.
