VERNON – Police are pretty sure they are going to find the person who hit two vehicles in a Vernon construction zone before abandoning their pickup and running away.
RCMP were called to the double hit-and-run on Highway 97 near Stickle Road on the city’s north end at around 2 p.m. yesterday, May 30, where they learned a blue GMC pickup had rear-ended a Honda Civic.
The suspect truck then backed up and drove off southbound hitting a Ministry of Transportation vehicle working in the construction zone.
The driver jumped out of the pickup and took off on foot, and was long gone before police arrived.
Police say the driver of the Honda Civic was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
“RCMP are confident the driver of the suspect vehicle will be identified and the investigation into this matter is ongoing,” police spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett says in a media release.
