RCMP need help to identify woman found dead beside the Coquihalla

FILE PHOTO

MERRITT - Merritt RCMP are looking for help finding the possible identity of a woman whose remains were found in a ditch by the Coquihalla Highway.

A motorist who jumped out to stretch his legs during a traffic jam found the remains near Mine Creek Road south of Merritt on Sunday, July 22, Staff Sgt. Lorne Wood said in a press release.

He reported it to RCMP at the scene of the collision that caused the traffic jam, Wood said.

While there was no obvious signs of foul play, Wood said RCMP are helping the B.C. Coroners Service investigate, including trying to figure out who the woman is.

She is described as having darker skin and long, dyed blond and red hair, but does not appear to match known missing person reports, he added.

Wood is asking anyone who saw a pedestrian near the Mine Creek Road exit last week to call Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262
