SICAMOUS - Police arrested two suspects for possessing a stolen generator worth tens of thousands of dollars in the Shuswap early yesterday morning.

According to a press release, Sicamous, Salmon Arm, and Revelstoke RCMP were notified about a man and a woman sitting in a van on the Trans-Canada Highway near Oxbow Frontage Road in Malakwa around 4 a.m. on Jan. 31. The van was pulling a large commercial Caterpillar diesel generator on its trailer.

Police conducted a strategic traffic stop and arrested the duo. The generator, valued at $40,000, was determined to have been stolen from Kootney National Park near Radium.

The man, 35, and the woman, 48, both from Maple Ridge, were released from custody.

They're set to appear in Salmon Arm court on Mar. 26.

Their names have not been released.
