KAMLOOPS - The RCMP Musical Ride is coming to Kamloops this summer as part of Canada's 150th birthday celebrations.

A troop of 32 horses and riders will be performing at McArthur Island Park this August, according to a media release. The ride has been a Canadian tradition since 1876 and brings its show to communities across the country.

The performance will include a variety of intricate figures and cavalry drills choreographed to music. Kamloops is one of five cities in B.C. hosting this event this year.

The show will give an opportunity for the public to experience the heritage and traditions of the RCMP, while raising funds for local charities across the country.

In partnership with the Rotary Club of Kamloops Aurora Centennial, B.C. Lottery Corporation and Cascades Casino, organizers are expecting thousands of attendees for the shows.

“We're excited to bring this iconic event to Kamloops." incoming Rotary Club president Aaron Krausert says in the release. "The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are seen as a symbol of our country and what better way to celebrate Canada's 150th year by watching a dazzling display of majestic horses and their red-clad riders create a work of art on the field at McArthur Island."

The Musical Ride will perform at 6 p.m. on Aug. 29 and Aug. 30 and organizers are expecting up to 3,000 attendees for each show. Seating is first come, first served. There are 1,500 bleacher seats available but you're encouraged to bring a lawn chair and blanket.

In addition to the show, event grounds will be open free to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can arrive early to meet and greet the horses.

Tickets for each performance are $20 per adult, $50 for a family four-pack, $17 for seniors and students. Children under five are free. Tickets will be available for purchase here, or at Flavours of India on Columbia Street, the Horse Barn on Mount Paul Way, Kamloops Insurance downtown and Fortune Health Foods on Fortune Drive.

All proceeds from the event will help the Rotary Club of Kamloops Aurora Centennial support youth, education and international projects, including the Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association, TRU Foundation Grant, the Starfish Backpack program, Light Up Guatemala, Rotary Youth Leadership event, international student exchanges, and Rotary food bank drives.
