ASHCROFT— RCMP officers are investigating an incident that left a four-year-old boy with serious but non-life threatening injuries over the weekend.

Police say yesterday, June 23, a complainant reported to an off-duty RCMP officer that she had witnessed a young boy being assaulted by several other children at the Ashcroft HUB Park on June 22, according to a news release.

The woman says she yelled at the children to stop, causing them to scatter from the area.

The young boy was taken to the hospital.

Ashcroft RCMP Detachment Commander Sgt. Kathleen Fitzgerald says they are looking for witnesses from the surrounding area.

“We strongly believe there may be witnesses who live outside the town of Ashcroft,” Fitzgerald says in a release. “We are working hard to identify the children involved but we need public assistance to do that.”

Police are looking to speak to people who went into the town of Ashcroft on Saturday.

Anyone with information should call the Ashcroft RCMP at 250-453-2216 with the file number 2019-894.
