RCMP looking for tips after Kamloops girl approached by unknown man

May 09, 2019 - 2:02 PM

KAMLOOPS — Police in Kamloops are asking for the public's assistance after a suspicious incident between a 13-year-old girl and an unknown man in a white pickup truck over two weeks ago.

RCMP say at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23 a truck stopped beside a young girl who was walking near Gleneagles Drive and Skagit Place.

The man claimed to be a friend of the girl's mother and said her mother had been looking for her and offered her a ride home, according to an RCMP media release.

The young girl declined.

She was not able to see the driver because of the height of the truck but noted he had a "gruff smokers voice." The truck was a white, four-door Ford pickup. It was lifted, or jacked up, with very shiny chrome-coloured wheels and shiny door handles that were approximately five feet from the ground. The truck also had very bright yellow headlights.

Officers canvassed homes in the area but no surveillance video was found that showed the suspect vehicle.

Kamloops RCMP are asking anyone who lives on Gleneagles Drive between Summit Drive and Springhill Drive, and have surveillance cameras that show passing vehicles, to contact them.

Anyone with information on this incident can call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
