RCMP involved in standoff and high-risk arrest in Barriere

RCMP were involved in a standoff with a high-risk individual who had barricaded himself in his home in Barriere today.

Local officers and members of the RCMP emergency response team arrested a 58-year-old man wanted on several outstanding warrants at his home on Creekside Road in Barriere today, Jan. 24.

Due to the high-risk posed by the man, the heavily armed emergency response team was called in to help.

Several attempts were made to get the man to exit his residence on his own, but none were successful.

The emergency response team "utilized various tactics to safely arrest him," RCMP said.

Police don't elaborate on what those tactics were.

He was arrested without incident and remains in custody as he waits for a date in court.

No word from RCMP on what the warrants were for or what charges he faces.
