RCMP investigating homicide outside of Kelowna nightclub

The Kelowna RCMP is investigating a murder after a man died shortly after an altercation outside of a downtown nightclub.

Police officers witnessed an altercation between a number of individuals outside of a nightclub in the 200 block of Lawrence Avenue, Aug. 12 at roughly 11 p.m., according to the RCMP in a press release.

A injured man was found on the ground and another man was seen fleeing from the area on foot. The injured man was transported to Kelowna General Hospital by ambulance where he died a short time later.

"The homicide investigation has been turned over to the Kelowna Serious Crime Unit," according to the RCMP.

No one has been charged or arrested at this time and investigators are continuing to search the area for evidence.

At this point in the investigation, police do not believe the victim and suspect knew each other before the incident.

Inspector Beth McAndie, with the Kelowna detachment, said witnesses of the incident have been identified and police officers are encouraging them to reach out and call the RCMP's tip line at 250-470-6236.
