RCMP investigating camping music festival near Kamloops

Tk'emlups RCMP are investigating a music festival that occurred 13 kilometres up Tranquille-Criss Creek Road this weekend.

On March 19, RCMP arrived to a "large gathering" of around 200 people camping in the area where there was a stage and music playing, according to an RCMP media release.

"People in Canada have a democratic right to lawful and peaceful protest and the RCMP must use discretion when balancing a citizen's rights with the current potential health risks associated to large public gatherings," RCMP said in a statement.

Staff Sgt. Bill Wallace called it "disheartening" and that it puts both officers and attendees' families at risk for COVID-19.

Tk'emlups is currently still investigating the incident and seeking information to identify the organizer.

Event organizers have not responded to iNFOnews.ca requests for comment.
