VERNON - Police, along with Health Canada and the Vernon Fire Department’s Hazmat team, are examining a suspected drug lab in Vernon.
Authorities have been at the property in the 8000 block of Silver Star Road since last Friday, March 31. As of Monday afternoon, police continue to hold the scene, according to a press release issued Monday afternoon by the RCMP.
“An initial examination of the residence led RCMP investigators to suspect that a clandestine drug lab may be in operation at the home. RCMP officers also enlisted the assistance of the Vernon Fire Department Hazmat Team,” South East District RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says in the release.
Given preliminary findings, the RCMP Federal Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response Team (CLEAR), was called out in order to safely examine the scene, Moskaluk says.
Teams will search for and collect evidence to determine the purpose of the suspected drug lab.
Police have not said what kind of drugs were found in the home or if anyone was arrested.
In addition to support from the Vernon Municipal Hazmat Team and the RCMP CLEAR team, investigators and examiners with Health Canada are also involved.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-250-545-7171 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
