Being a Police Dog handler is, in and of itself, a very demanding job. Constant training and working with your K9 partner takes up a lot of time. Add to that the commitments to family and the odd bit of sleep and there's not much time left in the day. For Cst. Reg SAHAY, however, that little bit of time that remains he spends generously giving back to his community.

It is this contribution that earned him the International Order of Daughters of the Empire (IODE) RCMP Community Service Award with which he was honoured today at the Kelowna RCMP Detachment.  The award was presented by Gladys Retzlaff, Citizenship Convenor of the IODE Kelowna to Cst. SAHAY for his involvement with Youth in the community.

Cst. SAHAY is a year round Coach/Trainer in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for youth aged 8 to 14 and volunteers 3 to 4 times per week at a local Jiu Jitsu Club. He is also an active member of the Kelowna Minor Football Association under 10 Division and is the head coach for Spring Flag Football and co head coach for  tackle football under 10 Division. In these roles Cst. SAHAY instructs youth on Skill development, teamwork and Sportsmanship. On top of all this Cst. Sahay is also a member of the Okanagan Mission Youth Soccer Association and is head coach of a youth boys soccer team. Cst. Sahay brings his life experience, considerable skills and passion for sports to positively influence the lives of young people. In do so, he also fosters a  positive relationship between Police and the Community he serves.

"Cst. Sahay is tireless volunteer and supporter of youth as well as an excellent police officer" said Superintendent Nick Romanchuk, Officer in Charge of the Kelowna Regional Detachment. " I am very proud of the work that he has done and continues to do on a daily basis".
