RCMP closed a busy section of Highway 5A in Kamloops Wednesday afternoon due to an investigation at a nearby home.
Members of the heavily-armed Southeast District Emergency Response Team were called in, Oct. 23, to assist local officers at a residence of interest to police, according to an RCMP media release.
Three people were arrested during the operation.
RCMP didn’t say if any charges would be laid or why the people were arrested.
“Due to the proximity of the highway in relation to the residence on Carmel Court where police were present, traffic was temporarily rerouted out of an abundance of caution,” Kamloops RCMP media liaison Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.
The major route between Hugh Allan Drive and Aberdeen Drive was closed for approximately an hour.
“As part of the ongoing investigation, a residence of interest was identified and the assistance of the (Southeast District Emergency Response Team) was requested by the Kamloops RCMP Detachment, due to the violence and weapons involved in the initial report,” Cpl. Evelyn said.
No further details related to the investigation will be provided at this time to protect its integrity, RCMP said.
