RCMP arrest Merritt man for sexual interference involving children

Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly sexually interfering with children near an RV park in Merritt last week.

Merritt RCMP received a report an intoxicated man was touching children inappropriately and responded to the Claybanks R.V. Park, Aug. 2, according to an RCMP release.

An officer spoke with several children who confirmed the information and description of the man provided by the complainant.

A suspect was located nearby and arrested without incident.

Skylar Mcleod has been charged with one count of sexual interference, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, one count failing to comply with a prohibition regarding children and two counts of assault, RCMP said.

He is currently bound by previous court imposed release conditions, which include having no contact or communication with anyone under the age of 16.

Mcleod is currently in custody and is expected to appear in court, Aug. 6, in Kamloops.

Anyone with information that have not yet spoken to police are urged to call the Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.
