Rash of Kelowna car dealership break-ins lead to stolen vehicles

FILE PHOTO

Brazen thieves have been smashing windows at Kelowna car dealerships in order to get keys to vehicles or to steal electronics.

At about 10 p.m. Wednesday night, Jan. 8, RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter at a car dealership near Enterprise Way and Highway 97.

No one was found inside but a window had been smashed and sets of keys were stolen along with one vehicle, Kelowna RCMP Const. Solana Pare said in an email.

“I can also confirm that Kelowna RCMP are investigating a rash of break and enters in the area of Leathead Road and Enterprise Way that have occurred in the two weeks,” she wrote.

“The suspect or suspects allegedly smash a window to gain entry into the building; once inside they are removing electronics and/or keys to vehicles in the lot. In multiple instances, vehicles have been taken once keys were obtained.”

The break-ins happen late at night or early in the morning. Police identified possible suspects this week.

“The RCMP encourage business owners to consider using a security system or other precautions as part of their loss prevention programs,” Pare wrote.
