Raptors team returns to Vernon to show off flying skills

VERNON - The Allan Brooks Nature Centre in Vernon is giving guests a chance to get up close and personal with Jury, Elton and Kessy, as well as other majestic birds of prey and the Raptors team returns.

The Raptors team will be showcasing the flying skills of Jury, the turkey vulture, Elton the Spectacled Owl, Kessy the American Kestrel and Tuari the Harris's Hawk for four days only at the Allan Brooks Nature Centre July 4 to July 7, according to a media release.

The team will hold flight demonstrations twice a day with the birds and demonstrate the essential role raptors play in our natural habitat and how they are critical to our ecosystem. Along with Jury, Elton, Kessy and Tuari the team will also pick-out two surprise birds for the flight demonstrations.

Along with the flight demonstrations, participants will also the opportunity to get closer to the birds with the Raptor Encounter Course. The course gives a small group experience to a maximum party of eight, allowing participants to wear the protective glove and feel the weight of a bird in very close proximity.

Founded in 2002 by Gillian Radcliffe, the Raptors team is comprised of a small group of caring, knowledgeable biologists and raptor enthusiasts dedicated to the conservation of birds of prey, the release says.

The Raptors team will be at the Allan Brooks Nature Centre in Vernon from July 4 to July 7.
