MABOU, N.S. - Acclaimed Cape Breton singer Raylene Rankin will be buried today in her hometown.
The 52-year-old member of music group, The Rankin Family, died Sunday from cancer.
A service will be held at St. Mary's Church in Mabou, a small community on the west coast of Cape Breton.
Rankin was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, only to see the disease return in 2009 and again last year.
Hundreds of people filled a church in Halifax on Thursday to remember Rankin, who formed the internationally acclaimed musical group more than 20 years ago with four of her 12 siblings.
Together, they brought an award-winning mix of traditional Celtic tunes and contemporary originals to stages around the world, picking up Juno Awards and other accolades along the way.
