A Revelstoke woman concerned about how U.S. politics will influence women’s healthcare is hosting a rally this morning for abortion rights.

In the U.S., the Supreme Court is expected to overrule Roe v. Wade and curtail abortion rights in roughly half of the states.

The Canadian Federal Government announced earlier this week that $3.5 million in funding would go towards improving Canadians' access to abortion services and healthcare information. Abortion is considered to be part of reproductive healthcare access in Canada.

Emily Robinson is organizing the “March for Reproductive Rights” rally in Revelstoke that will take place at 11 a.m. at the  Mackenzie Avenue and 1st Street intersection for roughly two hours.

“I feel like it’s getting personal. I mean it always has been as I identify as a woman. It seems like it’s getting closer and closer to home with the United States right now,” she said.

Roughly 50 people have said they’ll attend the event on Facebook, she said.

“It’s very clear that the United States has a lot of influence in our country and various other countries around the world,” Robinson said.

Within the entire Interior Health, there are three clinics officially providing surgical abortions in Kelowna, Nelson and Cranbrook, according to optionsforsexualhealth.org.

More information on the rally can be found on Robinson’s Facebook event.
