Rain this weekend in Okanagan should end in time for Remembrance Day

The morning fog patches should dissipate leaving mostly cloudy skies in the Okanagan today, Nov. 7, 2019.

The rain forecast for Saturday and Sunday in the Okanagan should clear in time for Remembrance Day on Monday, although the current weather pattern in the valley is making prognostication difficult.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says the Okanagan is currently between much colder air to the north and warmer air to the south, making computer models difficult to resolve.

“It’s a really tricky pattern for the forecast to lock in on. It’s a situation where you’ll see the forecast evolving from day to day,” Lundquist says.

The Okanagan forecast might be tough to predict, but at least it doesn't include the threat of freezing rain currently forecast for the central part of the province, nor does it include possible snow accumulation such as southern Ontario, where up to 20 cm of snow is expected between now and Saturday.

Expect a cloudy day in the Okanagan today, Nov. 7, with a high of 7 Celsius in Vernon and Kelowna, and 9 C in Penticton. The clouds continue overnight along with a 30 per cent chance of showers, fog patches and a low of 0 C in Vernon and Kelowna, and a low of 3 C in Penticton.

Tomorrow we should see a mix of sun and cloud with morning fog patches, a daytime high of 10 C and an overnight low of 3 C.

Rain is expected Saturday with a high of 10 C and a low of  7 C.

Rain overnight Saturday should give way to clouds, along with a 40 per cent chance of showers on Sunday. A high of 9 C and a low of 1 C is expected on Sunday.

Cloudy conditions are expected for Remembrance Day with a 30 per cent chance of snow flurries, a high of 6 C  and an overnight low of -2 C.

Tuesday is expected to be cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of flurries, a high of 3 C and a low of 0 C.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of 5 C and lows of -1 C.
