Workers at Shelter Bay Marina in West Kelowna kept a grass fire from spreading until West Kelowna Fire Rescue crews were able to put it out.
The action started just before noon today, July 20, when fire crews responded to a report that a boat was on fire.
That turned out not to be the case but a grass fire was being fought by workers using fire extinguishers and hoses as it burned to the edge of Campbell Road.
Firefighters used foam to put out the blaze and built a fire break.
The fire burned an area of about 40 meters by 20 meters and was accidental in nature, a West Kelowna Fire Rescue news release says.
Two workers were treated by ambulance crews for minor smoke inhalation.
“Conditions are obviously tinder dry out there, so please exercise extreme caution with any hot works or related heat/spark producing devices or machinery,” the news release says.
