B.C.’s Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction wants a restraining order against a prolific offender who has created safety concerns at the ministry's West Kelowna office.
Dylan Anthony Choquette, of no fixed address, has been interfering with the use, enjoyment and operation of the office since Jan. 6, 2022, according to a lawsuit filed in the Supreme Court of B.C. on Dec. 29.
The suit alleges Choquette blocks the entrance, hits the doors and windows, possesses weapons while he’s there, makes physical contact with others at the office, and yells at staffers.
“The defendant’s conduct creates substantial safety concerns,” the lawsuit claims.
Choquette was notified by staff, May 4, that he was banned from entering the office because of prior conduct towards staff.
Since May 25, he’s been attending the office without a lawful excuse, according to the lawsuit.
“The defendant has continued and intends to continue trespassing onto the West Kelowna office,” the suit claims
The province is looking for a restraining order that would prohibit Choquette from being within 100 metres of the office, communicating directly with staff, and possessing firearms or weapons.
“The defendant’s repeated unlawful entry and conduct at the West Kelowna Office has caused the Province to suffer irreparable harm. The Province will continue to suffer further loss and damage from the defendant’s continued conduct,” the lawsuit says.
Choquette has not filed a response. The accusations made by the Ministry have not been proven in court.
