Peachland council members will be deciding on whether to move forward with a proposal to develop Todd's RV and Camping site into bungalows and town-style buildings this week.

The proposed development would feature six luxury beach-side bungalows and three European hill town-style buildings equaling 46 units on the current RV site, at 3976 Beach Avenue.

Todd’s RV and Camping is 66 years old. It’s former owner Graham Todd said he would have liked to see it develop into a park or keep it as a camping spot but there’s weren't any takers. It was the last privately owned campground on Okanagan Lake.

The current campground would remain operational throughout 2022 until the site is developed, according to council documents.

“Staff have identified that this development proposal presents a unique opportunity to create a three-metre wide asphalt trail to connect Beach Avenue up to Highway 97 to support active transportation modes,” according to the staff report.

The multi-modal pathway, sidewalk extension, trail connections and capital contributions provide improved vehicle and pedestrian access to Okanagan Lake, There would also be 670 square metres of parkland dedicated at the southern portion of the site, which would provide the district with an opportunity to expand existing park space for public use, according to council documents.

Council will consider giving first and second reading to the rezoning application on March 22, during its regular council meeting. City staff recommend that the council passes the first steps and directs staff to schedule a public hearing for the development.
