Procession for fallen wildfire fighter in Penticton this week

The City of Penticton is hosting a procession for a firefighter who died on the job in northern BC.

A memorial for Zachery Muise will be at Skaha Lake Park on Aug. 9. He died while fighting the Donnie Creek fire last month.

Muise was 25 years old when his ATV rolled over a steep drop along a gravel road on July 28.

He was based in the Okanagan while he was working with the BC Wildfire Service, according to a City of Penticton news release.

RCMP, Penticton Fire Department and Big Cat crew trucks will travel along South Beach Road and the nearby pathway during a 1 p.m. procession, according to the City.

The beach parking lot will be closed from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a service at the park gazebo to follow the procession.

The public is invited to pay their respects to Muise.

Muise is the second firefighter to die in BC this year, following 19-year-old Devyn Gale, who died after she was hit by a fallen tree in the Revelstoke area on July 13.
