PREPARE TO BE SCARED: Haunting of Falkland huge Halloween hit

The Haunting of Falkland has already recouped the $11,000 that was invested to terrify the public this year.

All proceeds will now benefit local non-profits.

“We knew we were taking a big risk this year but also understood that we needed to take a leap of faith,” cofounder Denise Frocklage said in a press release issued, Oct. 26.

“We want this to be a major fund-raiser for local non-profits and surrounding communities in the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Area D. Presently, we provide donations to eight or nine non-profit associations from the area, therefore, to make a meaningful impact we must go big.”

Attendance for the opening weekend – Oct. 21 to 22 – was on par with last year’s record-breaking numbers, according to the release.

“Thanks to last weekend, this year’s venue is already paid for and 100% of the donations now will be divided between the non-profits,” the release read.

Donations will benefit local organizations that support seniors, veterans, youth, residents-in-need volunteer fire-fighters and sports.

“It was a non-stop flow of people from all over southern British Columbia,” Falkland Historic Society president Jon Kozuska said in the release. “We had people from Revelstoke, Lower Mainland, Kamloops, Lake Country, all over, it was amazing.”

This weekend – Oct. 28 and 29 – the Haunting is expecting about 1,500 to 2,500 guests.

Friday night from 4 to 9 p.m. the event will be in “full scare” mode. “No scare” hours will happen between noon and 3 p.m. on Saturday, before returning to “full scare” between 4 and 9 p.m.

The Haunting of Falkland is being held at the Falkland Museum and Heritage Park at 5756 Highway 97.
