KELOWNA – Premier Christy Clark will be a part of the We Are One pride march in Kelowna this weekend.
The West Kelowna MLA will be the first premier to walk in the Kelowna march, which starts at Stuart Park on Saturday, Aug. 13, according to a media release. The pride parade ends in City Park where the Okanagan Pride Society will have a festival celebrating LGBTQ rights.
Society president Sydney Lawson says the theme this year is We Are One.
"Many people believe that pride is just about the LGBTQ community but it is for anyone that understands the importance of equality and safe communities for all,” Lawson says in the release. “It's about celebrating diversity and inclusion."
Kelowna mayor Colin Basran, Penticton mayor Andrew Jakubeit and Kelowna-Lake Country MP Stephen Fuhr will also participate in the march.
Pride Week starts today, Aug. 8, with the march and festival only two of the many events taking place across the city.
