Thousands of Penticton residents and businesses are without power today.

City of Penticton Communications Manager Philip Cooper says the top of a power pole on Quebec Street sheared off early this afternoon, cutting power to 2,000 city customers.

Penticton utility crews are presently responding to the site, Cooper said in an email today, March 30.

Cooper says a "corresponding issue” at the Huth substation is impacting another 5,000 customers.

There is no word on the cause or how long the power outages are expected to last.
