With opening day still a while away, Big White Ski Resort is already seeing wintery conditions and dumps of snow.

Some skiers and snowboarders might get excited when viewing this photo of the resort, taken Oct. 15.

Current temperatures at the resort are 2 C this morning, Oct. 16 and the resort is not yet reporting any snow at its base. The opening date for Big White is currently set for Nov. 25.

Other mountain resorts are also seeing snow.

At Sun Peaks Ski Resort near Kamloops, the resort may see 0.3 cm falling today, according to Snow-Forecast.com. Earlier this week the resort also reported fresh snow in the village but current webcams show the snow has mostly melted since then.

SilverStar Mountain Resort near Vernon reported snow, with thick flakes falling Oct. 15. “Mother Nature must have noticed we changed our map boards over to winter today,” according to the resort’s latest Facebook post.

Rain is in the resort’s forecast for this weekend. SilverStar opens its nordic season Nov. 26 and alpine season Dec. 3.

Apex Mountain Resort near Penticton could also see a light sprinkling of snow, and up to 6 cm could be seen closer to the end of the month, on Oct. 25, according to the Snow-Forecast. Apex will tentatively open for the season Dec. 11.
