Possible threat puts Clearwater schools under hold and secure

An elementary school in Clearwater was put under a hold and secure by RCMP this week after receiving suspected threats.

River Raft Elementary School in the North Thompson community reported information it received to RCMP of a possible threat at approximately 9.30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Jan. 30.

Clearwater RCMP put River Raft and another school in the community under a hold and secure protocol and is investigating the reported threats. RCMP don't identify the second school.

RCMP have increased their presence at both schools to conduct their investigation and to support safety measures.

“The safety and security of students and staff are of upmost importance,” BC RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy said in the release. “We appreciate the patience and cooperative of staff, students and parents while the investigation continues and officers take appropriate steps to ensure their safety.”

The investigation continues.

Police said there's no additional information for release to the public at this time.
