KAMLOOPS - Sun Peaks Resort is encouraging couples to take the plunge at their pop-up wedding event in August.

The Sun Peaks Grand Hotel and Conference Centre is hoping to bring in some lovebirds for a fully prepared wedding and party on Aug. 10.

Faith Yurkiw, who is coordinating the event, says the resort had noticed a steady flow of people looking for elopement packages.

“We want to make it really affordable for people who want to elope or have a small wedding,” Yurkiw says.

The couples need only bring a marriage license and the rest will be taken care of.

The $3,500 price tag includes an officiant, photographer, videographer, floral arrangements, dinner for up to twelve guests and a night in a suite at the hotel.

Brides can decide which type of floral arrangement they would like for their photos and Yurkiw says there will be a few options ranging from simple to extravagant.

Wedding dresses and tuxedos are not provided, nor are they mandatory. Yurkiw encourages couples to wear whatever they want.

Upholding the tradition of a wedding cake is up to the couple to decide, and if they choose so they should bring their own, she says.

Although it is still in the planning stages, Yurkiw says there will likely be a cash bar. Food will be served in the evening at a barbecue style dinner, where all the couples and their guests can join for a celebration. There will be a DJ spinning tracks for the evening party.

Each couple will have individual ceremonies during one of four time slots throughout the day. Two of these slots have already been booked.

“Were trying to encourage not just elopement, but also a vow renewal, or to make an anniversary special,” says Yurkiw.
