Poolside tragedy leaves toddler dead, woman critically injured in Surrey, B.C.

SURREY, B.C. - A toddler is dead and a woman is clinging to life after an incident at a private swimming pool in Surrey, B.C.

RCMP say the two victims, who are related, were found floating in the outdoor pool by a resident at an apartment complex in the Guildford neighbourhood of the Metro Vancouver suburb.

The incident happened just after 9 p.m. Sunday night and Staff Sgt. Murray Hedderson says bystanders had started CPR by the time paramedics arrived, but the child could not be revived.

He says the woman was rushed to hospital in extremely critical condition.

RCMP are investigating, but Hedderson says the incident appears to be a tragic accident.

Names of the victims have not been released. (CKNW, News1130)
