VERNON - Three people, including a young boy, charged in connection with an alleged murder in Polson Park last summer are back in court this week.

Two of the individuals, Brandon Joseph Wellington, 18 years of age as of September 2015, and Tal Kalum La Riviere, 28, as of the same time period, are due in Vernon Provincial Court starting today for a preliminary inquiry — a hearing used to determine if there is enough evidence for the judge to order a trial. Both are charged with one count of second degree murder in relation to the death of Jason Hardy, 42, on Aug. 26, 2015. The inquiry is scheduled for ten days.

A minor who was 14-years-old at the time of his arrest in September 2015 will appear in court separately this week. He is charged with one count of second degree murder in the case. His name is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Crown spokesperson Dan McLaughlin says the boy is in custody and due in court Wednesday, June 8, to fix a date. He is not included in the preliminary inquiry for La Riviere and Wellington.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

Tal Kalum La Riviere, of Greater Vernon, is charged with one count of second degree murder in relation to the death of Jason Hardy.
