BC's police watchdog is investigating after a man an RCMP officer was supposed to check on was found dead later that day.
The Kelowna RCMP officer responded to wellness check at around 10:02 a.m. Jan. 10, at a residence in the 1900 block of Enterprise Way, according to an Independent Investigations Office of BC media release issued today, Feb. 5.
"The officer was not able to make contact with the subject of the well-being check," the IIO release said.
Later that morning, a man was found dead of what appeared to be natural causes in the same residence.
The independent investigations office was notified, Feb. 2.
"Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm what happened leading up to and during the incident, and what role, if any, police actions or inaction may have played in the death," the release read.
The deceased's identity hasn't been released.

The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in BC. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
