B.C.'s police watchdog is investigating following the death of an individual in Lumby who had been reported missing the day before.
Independent Investigations Office of B.C. chief civilian director Ron MacDonald said police received a call about a missing person in Lumby early in the morning, Dec. 28.
MacDonald said police searched for the person but were unsuccessful. The person was later found deceased.
"(It) looks like it could potentially be one of self-inflicted death," MacDonald said.
The Independent Investigations Office conducts investigations into incidents of death or serious harm that may have been the result of the actions of the police.
The IIO opened its file into the incident today, Dec. 29.
MacDonald said the IIO would determine if the actions or inactions of the RCMP may be relevant to the person's death.
"Sometimes (in) these cases the police contact us out of an abundance of caution because there was some (police) involvement," MacDonald said.
RCMP did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
