The cause of a small wildfire west of Kamloops earlier this week is unknown, but RCMP are looking for dashcam footage that could help with the investigation.

The Juniper Knoll fire between Cache Creek and Walachin was estimated to cover three hectares before it as under brought under control and put out.

The fire was discovered, May 17, along Highway 1, leading Ashcroft RCMP to request dashcam footage from the area between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. that day.

"The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined," Cpl. Lloyd Pinsent of Ashcroft RCMP said in a news release. "We need to speak with anyone who was driving in the area that has dashcam footage to help further the investigation."

Although police are looking for footage to help determine what exactly caused the fire along Highway 1, the wildfire service suspects the blaze was human-caused.

Last week, a Kamloops woman was charged with arson connected to four small wildfires in the Monte Lake area.
