KAMLOOPS – RCMP raided a marijuana dispensary and retail store in Kamloops this morning.

A search warrant was executed on the Canna Clinic on Hillside Drive around 10:30 a.m. today, May 7, and evidence seized, according to an RCMP media release.

Two employees were arrested.

The City of Kamloops says the action was the result of public complaints and that a cease and desist order had previously been issued.

Planning and Development Manager Rod Martin says the business did not have a licence, either.

"Currently, none of the cannabis dispensaries operating within the City of Kamloops have a valid Business Licence and have been encouraged to close their operation until they have received a provincial cannabis retail licence and a valid City of Kamloops Business Licence," he says in a media release.

Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay of the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit says police prefer to use the “least amount of enforcement to deal with people who perpetuate criminality through these illegal cannabis retail stores.”

“When businesses blatantly break the law and fail to follow the City’s bylaws and zoning regulations, then police must act," Pillay says in a release.
