UPDATE: Child dies after being hit by vehicle in Rutland neighbourhood

RCMP Municipal Traffic Services and Kelowna RCMP are currently investigating after a child died this afternoon in a vehicle-related accident.

"On April 19th, just after 2:45 p.m. members of the Kelowna RCMP frontline responded to a call from The BC Emergency Health Services regarding a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 500 block of McCurdy Road," according to Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy, of the Kelowna RCMP in a press release.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the press release.

The scene of the crash is currently cordoned off as investigators are trying to identify potential witnesses and are canvassing the area for video surveillance in an effort to determine what caused the collision, according to the press release.

“This is a tragic incident, and our condolences are with the family of the deceased,” says Noseworthy in the news release.  “We are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward and speak with us.”

The BC Coroners Service has been notified and is investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s sudden death.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
