VERNON - Police have arrested a man found in possession of candy and toys stolen from a youth hockey tournament.

On Oct. 21 around 10 p.m., the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP arrested a 45-year-old Vernon man who was operating a stolen vehicle, police say in a media release.

Upon further investigation, police found the man in possession of items taken during a break-in to the Civic Arena on Oct. 21.

“These stolen items included candy and toys from gift baskets for a youth hockey tournament,” police say.

The vehicle the suspect was found in was reported stolen from a local car dealership on Oct. 14, 2016. The man faces charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 and driving while disqualified.

The man is in custody and will appear in court in Vernon on Monday Oct. 24, 2016.
