Police investigating violent robbery at Penticton ice cream shop

Penticton spokesperon, RCMP Const. James Grandy.

A violent robbery this morning at Ogo’s Ice Cream Shop left the elderly female owner with serious injuries.

While preparing the store in the early morning, the 70-year-old business owner noticed two unidentified men enter the store shortly before 6:30 am. They both approached the woman and demanded she open the cash register.

Police say the woman was assaulted with a weapon, and according to a Facebook post written by the woman’s daughter, the weapon was a hammer.

The suspects, who initially demanded the till be opened, ended up taking the entire cash register, as well as food items.

Responding to the incident were multiple officers, Police Dog Services, General Investigative Team and Forensic Identification Services.

One suspect is described as a male wearing a black mask, grey hoodie sweater, grey sweat pants and white high-top runners. The other male suspect is described as wearing a black mask and black sweatshirt.

The business owner was treated at the scene by B.C. Ambulance for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

“Many local RCMP resources have been assigned to investigate this serious incident. There was heavy pedestrian traffic at the time, and encourage anyone who may have seen, heard, or captured on video anything which may be related, to contact us directly,” said Cst. James Grandy, spokesperson for the Penticton RCMP.

The Penticton RCMP are appealing to any witness, or anybody who might have any info, to call them at 250-492-4300. To submit a tip anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

A group of private citizens have pooled over $1,000 to offer as a reward to anybody who can lead the police to an arrest.
