Kamloops RCMP were already on the scene to investigate a torched vehicle when they were called to a second fire early Saturday morning.
Police were called to the 400 block of Laurier Drive around 3 a.m., May 13, for the first arson, where firefighters just extinguished a vehicle fire. Just one was damaged, but three others had gasoline poured on them, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.
Kamloops Fire Rescue told the officers of another fire nearby where three vehicles were torched, while a house and a fence had minor damage. That incident was on the 2600 block of Highway 5A.
"Due to the timing and proximity of the fires, police believe they are related," Kamloops RCMP spokesperson, Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, said in the news release.
Police gathered witness statements and learned two people dressed in black were spotted in the area at the time of the Laurier Drive fire.
"Neighbourhood canvasses have been conducted and will continue to be," Evelyn said. “Anyone in the area who may have dash camera footage, security video, or information that may be related to this investigation and has not yet spoken with police, is asked to please contact the detachment.”
The two suspicious people were spotted in a newer model light-coloured Honda CRV or a similar SUV, according to police.
