KELOWNA - Police are saying a 17-year-old Kelowna girl was distraught when she removed her shirt and ran through Okanagan Mission Secondary School, allegedly assaulting students as she passed.

Police were called to the school at about 12:40 p.m., told a teen was slapping students in the hallway. She had apparently taken off her shirt before going into the school and then fled on foot following the event. Officers later found the girl, who was not a student of Okanagan Mission Secondary School, on Lakeshore Road and determined she likely going through an unknown mental crisis. She was taken to hospital for any treatment she may have required.

Though the girl was initially taken into custody and released into the care of medical practitioners, she is expected to appear in court at a later date and is prohibited from entering school property for the safety of students and staff.

No serious injuries were reported. The investigation continues and the girl could face multiple charges.
