Police investigate after dead body found in Merritt vehicle fire

Police are investigating a dead body found in a vehicle fire in Merritt. 

Emergency crews responded to a single vehicle fire along Highway 97C and Mammett Ranch Road on April 22, according to a press release from police.

After the blaze was put out, a dead body was found inside the vehicle. Police have not released any information about the deceased.

“The Southeast District Major Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. At this time, the cause of the fire and any potential foul play remains under investigation,” Staff Sgt. Jason Smart said in the release.
