KAMLOOPS - A man has been arrested in connection to a pair of garbage can fires in Kamloops.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release that Kamloops Fire Rescue was called to a garbage can on fire at the bus loop on University Drive at around 11 p.m. Monday, May 7.
Police were called to the scene after firefighters determined it appeared to be deliberately set.
Hours later, at 3 a.m. yesterday, May 8, police and firefighters were called to another garbage can on fire, this time on Regent Crescent in Aberdeen.
Through neighbourhood enquiries, Kamloops RCMP identified a 24-year-old man as the suspect and he was arrested without incident. He's been released with a future court date.
The suspect is from Kamloops and was previously known to police, Shelkie says.
A third fire on the same night occurred on Monmouth Drive in Upper Sahali, when a plastic shed at a home was set on fire. Police are investigating to see if there is a connection to this suspect.
