Police, fire department investing cause of suspicious Kelowna blaze

The Kelowna RCMP and Kelowna Fire Department are investigating after a "suspicious" blaze was knocked down by firefighters last night.

"At approximately 10:30 p.m. (April 10) the Kelowna Fire Department responded to a 9-1-1 report of a house on fire on Alameda Court. The first arriving officer reported smoke coming from the front of a large house under construction," said platoon captain Scott Clarke in a press release.

"Crews quickly knocked down and extinguished a fire at the front of the structure," he said in the release, adding the fire caused minor smoke and structure damage to the front of the house.

"There were no injuries as the house was not occupied at the time," he said in the release.

The fire is suspicious in nature and will be investigated by KFD investigators and the RCMP, he said in the release.

The Kelowna Fire Department responded with four engines, a rescue unit, a command vehicle, safety unit and 18 personnel. The RCMP, BC Ambulance Service and FortisBC crews were also on scene.
