Police find stolen mail after raids in Summerland

FILE PHOTO

Summerland RCMP found stolen mail and a rifle when officers raided two homes earlier this week.

Officers executed two search warrants as part of an investigation into a string of mail thefts in December, according to an RCMP media release.

The thieves broke into mailboxes without damaging them, meaning some people might not know their mail was stolen.

“In order to reduce the risk of being a victim of mail theft, the Summerland RCMP recommend retrieving your mail daily whenever possible as the majority of these thefts are believed to have occurred overnight,” Penticton media relations officer Sgt. Jason Bayda said in the release.

During the raids police seized an unspecified amount of mail from Summerland and Peachland along with a .22 calibre rifle.

RCMP don't say if any arrests were made or if any suspects face charges.

If you believe you were the victim of theft from your mailbox call Summerland RCMP at 250-494-7416 and quote file number 2023-2724.
