A police dog helped find an elderly woman with Alzheimers who went missing in the North Okanagan this past weekend.
Officers were called to a report of a missing 82-year-old woman in Spallumcheen north of Vernon at around 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, according to an RCMP media release.
RCMP said she had wandered away from her property in the 4300 block of Chamberlain Road and a ground search was started and a police dog team was dispatched.
An RCMP Police Dog located an elderly woman who had gone missing over the weekend according to a release from the RCMP.
A few hours later, police dog Mavrick found the woman in a heavily-wooded area uninjured.
“Our police service dogs are exceptional," Vernon North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski said in the release. “They area an incredibly important part of our team and provide vital assistance to our frontline operations, particularly in situations like this where they can help us find a lost or missing person quickly.”
