Police arrest suspect in Lumby armed robbery

RCMP have arrested a suspect in connection with an armed robbery in Lumby last week.

The robbery occurred at a business in the 2000 block of Vernon Street in Lumby, Nov. 24, around 6:45 a.m., according to an RCMP media release.

A lone suspect entered the business armed with a weapon and demanded cash and lottery tickets from an employee. RCMP do not identify the business or say what kind of weapon was used.

When the employee reached to activate an alarm, the suspect fled the scene. Police responded to the business, however, they failed to locate the suspect.

"Information provided by the witness, in addition to video surveillance from the business, was used by investigators to identify a person of interest," Vernon RCMP media liason officer Const. Chris Terleski said in the release. "Further work by the investigator confirmed the person’s involvement in the crime and has subsequently led to their arrest."

Danny John Charette, 57, is charged with one count of robbery and has been released from custody pending a future court appearance.

RCMP say no further information will be made available to the public at this time as the incident remains under investigation.
