Police activity outside Vernon apartment building explained

Police presence outside this 20 Street apartment in Vernon Friday, Nov. 27, 2015 was related to a stolen property investigation.

VERNON - Police activity outside a Vernon apartment building last week was related to a stolen property investigation, RCMP confirmed today, Dec. 3

RCMP recovered three stolen Ford pickup trucks from the residence, located in the 4700 block of 20 Street, around 8:30 a.m., Nov. 27, Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says in a media release.

Police remained at the scene until they obtained a search warrant for the residence which turned up more stolen property inside the house.

Two people were arrested, 33-year-old Wendy Kitt, from Alberta, and a 32-year-old Kelowna man whose name is not being released.

Kitt faces charges of failure to comply with a recognizance and three counts of possession of stolen property. She was held in custody and is due in court today.

The man was released from custody on a promise to appear for court on Feb. 25. Three charges of possession of stolen property were recommended to Crown counsel by the RCMP, but have not yet been approved.

The investigation is ongoing, and RCMP are following up on further leads in this matter, Noseworthy says.
