Police act quickly after young Penticton girl subjected to offensive sexual remarks

PENTICTON - Inappropriate comments made to a school girl by a 40 year old intoxicated man resulted in quick police action by Penticton RCMP on Tuesday, Oct.20.

Penticton RCMP Staff Sgt. Kurt Lozinski said today, Oct. 22, RCMP responded to an incident at Carmi School just before 3 p.m Tuesday. It involved a man who approached a nine year old girl with inappropriate and alarming sexual comments.

The youth reported being very frightened by the incident.

Police located a man matching the girl’s description, finding him “grossly intoxicated.” He was subsequently arrested.

The man is well known to police, having had numerous dealings with him because of his significant alcohol abuse.

The man was jailed until sober. Lozinski says police have since spoken to the family of the nine-year-old, who are satisfied with the police investigation and now wish to put the matter behind them.

A letter was also sent to families of other students in the school, reminding parents and guardians to be aware of the importance of educating their children regarding stranger danger.
