KAMLOOPS – While some events have been cancelled in Kamloops this weekend due to the fallout from nearby wildfires, there’s still plenty to do.

The Kamloops Komedy Festival started on Wednesday and runs until Sunday, July 16. Tonight will feature acclaimed comedian Mike Delamont and festival organizer Leland Klaassen. Things start at 7:30 p.m. at the Sagebrush theatre and tickets are $35. Tomorrow night has festival headliner Shaun Majumder, one of the hosts of This Hour Has 22 Minutes on CBC. Tickets for that show are $45 and things also start at 7:30 p.m. at the Sagebrush. Sunday a family friendly show will be going on at the Kamloops Alliance Church with Matt Falk starting at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20.00.

For Elvis fans it’s a big weekend, as the Canadian Bluemoon Elvis Festival rolls takes over Barriere. Things start today and run to Sunday. This is the fifth version of the festival, and they’re going for a Hawaiian theme this time. Passes are $125 for the weekend and shows include tribute acts to Elvis and other acts from the same time, like the Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel. Single day or night tickets are also available.

If you’re looking for a way to support people in need a fundraising concert and food drive has been organized by the Salvation Army and Thompson Rivers University Student Union. All funds raised by the Hunger Heroes Concert at Riverside Park will help provide meals or programming in Kamloops for people in need, including children. The show runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and will include local and international talent.

During the two hour event an artist will guide participants through the steps to turn a black canvas into a unique piece of your own art depicting midnight moonlight. The event starts at 6 p.m., though it’s advised to show up early. Tickets are $45.

Music in the Park continues this weekend. Friday night it’ll be the J C Garcia band playing some family pop, on Saturday it’s Frapp City playing some classic rock and Sunday the Ewan Macintyre Band will be playing folksy tunes with some celtic notes. All shows start at 7 p.m.

Some events have been cancelled due to the widlfires. The Harley-Davidson motorcycle rally planned for this weekend has been postponed due to concerns about the safety of riding motorcycles in the smokey conditions around Kamloops. Also, the Tournament City Derby Dolls have had to cancel there games at the Sandman Centre scheduled for tomorrow.
