Plans for huge South Okanagan cannabis facility scuttled

Sunniva Inc. has announced the cessation of all work on its Okanagan Falls facility, shown here in a recent photo of the site.

PENTICTON - Construction of a cannabis production facility for Okanagan Falls has come to a complete halt.

Sunniva Medical Inc. announced its intention to suspend “all current plans” to do with their Okanagan Falls facility in a strategic update released April 29.

The company plans to focus primarily on its California assets and brands and has ceased all operations pertaining to the company’s Okanagan Falls property.

The company said in its strategic update it would “continue to review strategic initiatives with respect to Canadian assets” but did not say specifically what would become of the Okanagan Falls site, upon which is a partially completed foundation for a proposed 740,000 square foot greenhouse.

Sunniva said it has terminated its agreement with the general contractor for the construction of the Okanagan Falls campus.

A previous proposal to ‘spin out’ the company’s Canadian assets into a stand alone entity will also not take place, the update said.

There were high hopes construction of the greenhouse on the 10 acre site that was formerly occupied by the Okanagan Falls Weyerhaeuser sawmill would revitalize Okanagan Falls.

Calls to Sunniva Inc. were not returned by deadline.
